Leaves and more leaves

Fall comes in a big way in my neighborhood because
the street is lined with 60-year old oak trees.

I have two that stand as guards at the entry of my driveway.
This one has lost about half it's leaves.

And this one is refusing to let them go.

You can clean the gutters one day, but the next day you'd
never know.

My house sits back quite a ways from the street, so
it's a long way to the curb.  But if I can get them there,
the city (bless their hearts) comes along  a couple times
a week and sucks them up.

One side of the yard done ~  other side to go.  Then I can do it
all over again tomorrow.

While fall is one of my favorite seasons, the part of raking
leaves I never look forward to.  It consumes part of
October, all of November, and even lingers into December.
Lest I sound like I'm complaining, I really do love my
trees and couldn't imagine living in a neighborhood
without them.

Today the skies are moody blue and there is a chill in the wind.
I couldn't help but think of a favorite childhood story
from " Winnie The Pooh and the Blustery Day".

Pooh's Blustery Day video

Hum dum dum ditty dum
Hum dum dum

Oh the wind is lashing lustily
And the trees are thrashing thrustily
And the leaves are rustling gustily
So it's rather safe to say
That it seems that it may turn out to be
It feels that it will undoubtedly
It looks like a rather blustery day, today
It sounds that it may turn out to be
Feels that it will undoubtedly
Looks like a rather bluster day today

Love, love, love this post. The leaves are so glorious but are quite the chore. Your ending with wonderful memories of Winnie the Pooh was just perfect!

Thanks so much for bringing your seasonal recipe to Seasonal Sundays!

I love seeing the oak trees on your street! We have big trees, and it's so fabulous that your town will deal with the leaves in such a smart way! Bagging them up is back breaking work, and all those PLASTIC bags! Love Pooh too! Jacqueline

Oh, I love this post.
Do you know that your house could easily be in my neighborhood. Oh my, how I wish you did live in my neighborhood:) I would love to have a neighbor and friend like you. Our streets are lined in Elm trees, but the way the street looks and the houses look almost identical to yours.
Anyway, we are past that stage now, we are peacefully waiting for the snow to fall some time this week.
Hugs, Cindy

The trees are gorgeous and all the colors must be wonderful!!! But I do understand the racking..., and am glad we don't have to do much of that anymore. Our current home has no trees on the property..., they're all in our neighbors yards..., close enough to admire, but far enough to hardly get any leaves blown over!

I give 'picking up the leaves' as a job to my children! Is that bad?! I hate doing it and they seem to find it fun!

Okay, now I feel like a very bad Mummy!

I'm following you too!

Thanks for sharing the beautiful fall color around your home...we don't get to see much of that in Santa Barbara. And your house looks perfectly charming...magazine worthy...love your paint colors. The whole setting really gets me in the mood for Thanksgiving...may you and yours have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving

Oh my that's a lot of leaves to be rake or blow up. After hubby cut off our willow tree, we don't have many leaves on the ground which I am thankful hehe.

You have such a beautiful home! I love the leaves although they're not much fun to deal with!! I felt like having a cup of hot cider just by looking at your home. Lovely! Thanks for sharing and Happy Outdoor Wednesday.

I've always wanted to live on a tree-lined street like yours. I wonder though how much I would like it if I had to rake the leaves so often. But then I'd probably wait for days to do so, which neighbors would dislike. :-) Thanks for sharing lovely photos.
Peace,
