Hollyhock Pottery

I found this sweet little pot at Scott's Antique Market this morning and I just couldn't resist it.  The seller said it was probably from the 1940's to 50's and was made in Zanesville, Ohio, home of many pottery companies.

I don't usually buy things in this color, but then I remembered this is the new color I'm redoing my living room in and it would match the upholstery fabric I bought.  It didn't take a lot of talking to myself to convince me to buy it since it was half-off, but truly, it was the hollyhock design on the sides that drew me in.

It found a place on my mantel next to some vintage books and my mantel clock.

I think it looks right at home on the mantel, like it's always lived here.

At the other end of my mantel lives this rusty iron horse.  He looks so tired and asleep on his feet,  just like I feel most of the time.  At least I don't have as many age spots as he does.

Love your new hollyhock piece - my grandmother always had hollyhocks and when I see them now, they give me a warm, homey feeling. The color seems to already go with the things on your mantel - your entire mantel is a beauty. Thanks for sharing with us. Hugs ~ Mary

LOVE your new pot!

Zanesville is about an hour to the east - but a world away from us in the capital city.

I have never been there but am told that they have huge sales sometimes on crockery and the like, would love to go sometime.

About 20 minutes north of Zanesville is the home of Longaberger Baskets...I have been there, seems like a fun day trip to hit up both places.

Anyway, love your display and you are so right - looks like it has always nestled comfortably amongst those pretty treasures.

Since I live in Zanesville now I have never heard about any huge pottery sales but I do know that there is a pottery convention of sorts here every summer. There is an antique store in downtown Z that has LOTS of pottery. As for being a world away from Columbus, it just seems like that to someone who doesn't drive back and forth like I do. I just put some music on and I am there in no time. Your crock is very pretty and the hollyhocks design is adorable!~Hugs, Patti

I really like using vintage books in vignettes. Your lovely new pot looks good with the greenery and adds a bright pop on your mantel.
Thanks for stopping by and following. I'm following back. Mary Alice
