Thrifting Finds

I just wanted to share a few fun things I've been collecting for myself.
Usually I'm on the lookout for my Etsy shop, but these are just for me.
I found the vintage silverware at the Scott's Antique Market last
month when it was in town.

I found a booth that had four good sized boxes of silverware, so I started
going through it piece by piece.  I was trying to find enough pieces
to make a matched set for eight.  Well ~ that didn't go
to well ~ so then I started looking for eight forks that matched,
eight spoons that matched, and eight knives that matched.
After about a half hour, a lady came up and in less than five minutes, she
had picked out eight place settings with none of the pieces matching.
So ~ guess what I did too?  It still took me longer than five
minutes to pick out my mismatched pieces, but I came away with
a set of whimsical silverware and very black fingers.

Next, I started looking for mismatched glass vases or containers

to display them in.  It took a few trips to Goodwill and an Etsy buy,
but now I have my three mismatched glass containers to
match my mismatched silverware and I'm loving it all together.

Now I must admit, I don't know much about glass or how to

tell if it's vintage or crystal or just cheap glass,
but I do know what I like when I see it.
To this happy trio, I added a sweet vase  and teacup
I found at Goodwill, and a small bunch of white tulips
from the grocery store on clearance for $1.

Since I'm not a coffee or tea drinker, I'll probably take
this sweet little teacup and plant a flower in it.  It's
just too pretty not to use in some way, and I think
a violet might just the thing for it.

Nothing in this grouping was expensive or a collector's item,
but I love it all the same for it's elegant simplicity and
the way it makes this corner of my kitchen a little brighter.

What lovely finds, elegant and timeless pieces.
I love old silverware, it reminds me of bygone days.
They look beautiful gathered inside the glassware.

The silver is very pretty and will also be usful. I like the way you displayed it in the glasses. I really like the sparkle of silver and glass in kitchens.(-:

I like how you have your silver displayed in the glass containers. Cute idea.

I went to the antique show last month also. I bought some stuff of course, but it seemed to me that most of the items were priced a little high. And then some of the vendors were starting to pack up way before the show was supposed to be over for the day. I normally go through the whole place and then go back and buy stuff, so by the time I was ready to really do some buying, places were shutting down.

Very nice! I LOVE mismatched silverware! I'm slowly collecting pretty floral plates that are all different yet have the same theme and I'd like to do the same with tea cups. I think your glass containers are pretty and the tea cup will make a perfect pot for a violet.
If I can figure out how to show how to make the rick rack roses on my blog I sure will! Thanks for commenting on my post and I'm your newest follower too.

Very pretty! I love how you put it all together in your vignette! I was lucky and my best friend gave me her grandmother's old silver and I just display it in an old crock on my china hutch...the tarnishe patina looks pretty against the white paint and the antique china. Good luck on your hunt for more!~Hugs, Patti

What a nice setting. I think a violet would look great against the white cup. Have a great day.

I love it!...especially the white tulips. I picked up some vintage silverware too this past week. I have a large family and when we get together for holiday dinners I always used plastic forks. But not anymore...I have collected enough for at least 25 people. I have them displayed in my old pewter mugs. Your display is very elegant. xo

Cindy what a delightful display of pretties!! I have finally found something we are not alike on- I love drinking tea out of pretty teacups!! My great aunt from Ireland always had a pot of tea and pretty cups ready when I would go visit and think I got the love from her! Hardly a day goes by that I don't have a cup of tea.

Love the mismatched silver! My friend Millicent who gave me a ton of furniture and things when she was moving to her daughter's gave me a huge amount of mismatched silver! Anything else you might be looking for in that department that I might have?

Oh I have the yardage amounts so you don't have to measure all that- I tried sending it 3 times but it came back undeliverable so might give you a jingle tomorrow - think it would be too late tonight for you-

Hi there! Thank you so much for your sweet visit to my blog. I have so enjoyed reading about your silverware treasure hunt! I have a nice but very boring set that was a wedding gift. I would much rather have a mixmatched set of old pretty pieces! I think I have something new to search for at the thrift stores and estate sales! Thanks for the inspiration!
Best Wishes and Blessings,
Amanda

I just love rummaging thru old silver, you grabbed some great pieces. Your glassware is gorgeous. The way I've learned to tell crystal is that it emits a rainbow pattern when held up to the sun and makes a "ting" noise when the flip it with your fingers on the rim. Hope that helps a little. Love your display with the white tulips, really pretty. Thanks for linking up with VIF!
hugs,
Debra

Very pretty! Mismatched is good and I actually prefer it that way. It looks like our collections evolved over time and not put together in a flash. I really like what you found here and the way you have it all displayed.
Thanks for stopping by and your kind comments. I'll be back to see what you're up too also.

I really like the look of mismatched silverware. And there are so many beautiful designs that I always have a hard time picking just one style.
I love the idea of displaying the silverware in the pretty glass. Your pictures are just beautiful and really show off your great finds.
